The new presentation will be a
Nature-Science experience, made possible partly
through use of the spacious, wooded, flower-bedecked grounds of the Whitten home in Monteverde. People will be invited to join me on a “nature walk” which
will involve a multitude of possibilities, again, largely impromptu.
My emphasis will be on rainforest-environmental conservation, using direct
(on-site) observation of on rainforest birds, butterflies, and tropical
plants (flowers) as teaching material. I will show them how I accomplish
the very “close-up” videography of tropical insects which has been used
in several professional videos by the Smithsonian, the BBC, and Television.
I am planning a “Live Arthropod Zoo”, just off the trail, so that will
be able to see a variety of strange and remarkable rainforest insects,
etc., in captivity (excellent photo opportunity)! The food plants
of many beautiful tropical butterflies, abound in his area, so that all
will be able to see the larvae, pupae and adults (butterflies) of many
species in a totally natural state! Birdwise, we have recently seen Motmots,
Toucans, Squirrel Cuckoos, and Egrets, (to name a few). Local butterflies
include giant Owl butterflies and Blue Morphos, among others.
